Hunter shot in chest
A Heron Lake man was injured Saturday in Jackson County after being shot in the chest by a member of his own hunting party.
Eric V. Bass, 37, was treated for birdshot wounds to the chest at an area hospital Saturday afternoon and released.
On Monday, Jackson County Sheriff Roger Hawkinson called the shooting accidental and said no charges are pending.
According to Hawkinson, the shooting happened around 1:45 p.m. Saturday in Alba Township in northwestern Jackson County. Results of an investigation by sheriff’s deputies revealed a member of the pheasant hunting party had been shooting at a raccoon tangled in a fight with a dog belonging to a member of the hunting party when a shot struck Bass in the “chest area.”
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
