Veterans Day programs set
A local veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom is the keynote speaker at a special Veterans Day program at Bank Midwest in Jackson next Wednesday.
Sgt. Brent Pohlman, a Jackson County native and resident, served in the Minnesota National Guard for nine years and spent 16 months in Iraq.
Pohlman’s address is the highlight of Bank Midwest’s annual Veterans Day program Nov. 11, which begins this year at 10 a.m. The program will also feature presentation of the colors by the local Cub Scout Pack 80, the pledge of allegiance, patriotic songs by local fourth- and fifth-grade students under the direction of LeAnn Olson and a special reading about the poppy and its symbolism to veterans.
The program will end with retiring of the colors by the Cub Scouts and free cookies, coffee and punch. Each person who attends the program will also receive a special souvenir of the day.
Bank Midwest’s Nancy Edlin will serve as mistress of ceremonies.
Later that day, Riverside Elementary School will host a program at 1 p.m. at the school.
The local VFW and Auxiliary will also host a program at the Good Samaritan Society home. The program will begin at 3 p.m. in the main dining room and feature entertainment and a flag presentation ceremony.
