A funeral service for Tillmen H. Michelson took place Monday afternoon, June 14, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Jackson, with Pastor Bill Odermann officiating. Interment was at Hauge’s Cemetery, Belmont Township, Jackson County. Tillmen died at Jackson Good Samaritan Center on Friday, June 11.

Casket bearers were Paul Nibbe, Dick Nyborg, Ron Fransen, Bill Phillips, Matt Roberts and Kent Johnson. Grandchildren as honorary casket bearers were Stacey Campbell, Wendy Ahnapkana, Alyssa Michelson, Michele Ingbritson, Brian Michelson, Randy Michelson and Jeremy Michelson. Ushers were Dallas Halverson and Tanner Michelson. Music was provided by Melynda Tracey, organist, and Jaimi Michelson, soloist. Osterberg Funeral Service, Jackson, handled the funeral arrangements.

Tillmen Homer Michelson was born on Nov. 18, 1923, in Bayfield, Wis., the son of Nelis and Ada (Hill) Michelson. After they moved to Belmont Township, Tillmen attended school there. After his education, he worked on the family farm. He was united in marriage to Clarine Schlager on May 5, 1945, at the Presbyterian manse in Jackson. After marriage, they farmed in Belmont Township before settling on a farm in Des Moines Township. They moved into Jackson in 1999. Tillmen became a resident of the Jackson Good Samaritan Center on March 24, 2009.

Tillmen was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Jackson, where he had been an usher. He was a member of the Hauge’s Cemetery caretaker team. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. In his younger years, he enjoyed trapping. He also enjoyed watching the sporting activities of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Tillmen is survived by his wife of 65 years, Clarine Michelson of Jackson; two sons, Gene (Alice) Michelson of Jackson and Larry (Pam) Michelson of Waconia; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Tillmen was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Newman, Kenneth, Gaylord and Harlan Michelson; and two sisters, Esther Sheldon and Lucille Johnson.
