Print This Page Print this page
A funeral service for Leo J. Chapman-Nesseth took place Monday morning, June 14, at Salem Lutheran Church in Jackson, with Pastor Eric Hullstrom officiating. Interment was at Delafield Cemetery, Delafield Township, Jackson County. Leo died in his mother’s arms at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester on the morning of June 9. He is missed and he is loved beyond measure. He had so much left to experience.

Casket bearers were Matt Nesseth, Josh Chapman, Tyler Chapman, Tommy Nesseth and David Chapman. Music was provided by Ardis Mickelson, organist, and Kent Mickelson and Macey Rossow, soloists. Osterberg Funeral Service, Jackson, handled the funeral arrangements.

Leo James Chapman-Nesseth was born on a cloudy day, June 6, 2009, at Worthington Regional Hospital. Leo is the son of Andrew Nesseth and Lindsay Chapman and the brother of Sylvia Poppy. When Leo was born, his sister asked friends and family if they wanted to pet her new baby brother; as it turned out, no one could resist rubbing his soft, fuzzy head. Leo spent his days at home admiring his sister and laughing at her antics. He loved to be outside watching the wind spill off the leaves in the trees. He loved the pine cones in the yard. He loved to snuggle with his kitty, Bobcat. He especially loved to grab the glasses off the nose of anyone who got close enough for him to reach. He loved his Nuk. Leo never complained, rarely got grumpy and was as sweet and gentle as any boy ever was. He took care of his parents and sister at all times. While Leo was sick he still managed to give his parents melting grins to let them know that everything would be OK. He was brave and he was strong.

Leo celebrated his first birthday at the Minnesota Zoo on June 6. He was baptized on June 8, surrounded in love at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Leo is survived by parents, Lindsay and Andrew, and his big sister, Sylvia Poppy; grandparents, Jim Nesseth and Tam Erickson, Mike and Lynn Clark, Greg Ahrens and Marcy Chapman; great-grandparents, Russ Buhler and Dean Chapman Sr.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Leo was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dean Chapman Jr.; great-grandparents, Cora and Dick DeRuyter, Edith Nesseth-Buhler, Marilyn Chapman and William Schafhauser.

We will forever hold Leo James in our hearts.
