Allen J. Kolander, 41
A funeral service for Allen J. Kolander took place Wednesday morning, June 23, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, with Pastor Bart Mueller officiating. Interment was at St. Peter Cemetery, Delafield Township, Jackson County. Allen died on the farm on Saturday, June 19.
Casket bearers were Seth Rossow, Brad Hansen, Scott Sydnes, Terry Pohlman, Rod Dicks, Kevin Rossow, Troy Thompson and Ryan Lemickson. Organist was Brenda Matasovsky. Osterberg Funeral Service handled the funeral arrangements.
Allen John Kolander was born on July 23, 1968, in Lakefield, the son of Cordell and Theresa (Pavelko) Kolander. He graduated from Lakefield High School in 1986. After graduation, he farmed with the family in Heron Lake Township.
Allen was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Heron Lake Township, where he was baptized and confirmed. He served as a trustee at St. Peter Lutheran Church for many years and was known as the person who could fix just about anything. He received his pilot’s license in the year 2000 and was the manager at the Jackson Airport for a year. He was just appointed to the Jackson Airport Commission and was a member of the A.O.P.A. Al was so proud of his two-seater Cessna plane. He served on the Heron Lake Township Board for many years. Allen was a people person with a heart of gold. He enjoyed helping others and loved spending time with Dawn and the kids. His hobbies were tractors, collecting and fixing snowmobiles, spending time in the swimming pool with Ean and Erin, and flying his plane.
Allen is survived by his parents, Cordell and Theresa Kolander of Lakefield; sister, Lisa (Jim) Morris of Lakefield; fiancee, Dawn Hohenstein, and her children, Ean and Erin Hohenstein of Lakefield; lots of aunts, uncles, cousins, and a nephew.
Allen was preceded in death by both maternal and paternal grandparents, and his uncles, David Pavelko and Merle Kolander.
