Elinor Evelyn (Vogt) Grantz was born Feb. 15, 1922, at Brewster to Theodore J. Vogt and Rose Kahn. She was baptized in Brewster on March 26, 1922, and was confirmed into the Lutheran faith on April 5, 1936, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield. She was raised by her German immigrant grandparents in rural Lakefield. She attended Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School, where she quickly learned the English language and finished her education at Lakefield Public Schools. After her schooling, she traveled to Los Angeles, Calif., where she worked as a seamstress for a short time with her mother. Upon returning to Minnesota, she worked for several years at Green Giant Canning Company in LeSueur. On Jan. 27, 1942, she was married to Gerald Earl Grantz in Jackson. After marriage, she did seasonal employment for many years at Dekalb. Mrs. Grantz then became a full-time housewife and raised their three children, James, Wayne and Gregory. Elinor was a lifelong and founding member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jackson, where she was actively involved with many activities over the years. Elinor enjoyed many activities, including collecting antiques, sewing, refinishing furniture, painting, gardening, quilting, baking, scripture reading, writing letters and short stories, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was famous for her “five-minute meals,” which she served when family and friends would show up unexpectedly; a four-course meal would magically show up in front of them.
Elinor is survived by two sons, James (Mary) Grantz of Jackson and Wayne (Lani) Grantz of Worthington; five grandchildren, Susan (Troy) Marco of Dassel, Dan Grantz of Jackson, Matthew Grantz of Minneapolis, Leslie (TJ) Lane of Sauk Rapids, and Amanda (Christopher) Stiphout of Oak Harbor, Wash.; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Sylvester; husband, Gerald; son, Greg; infant granddaughter, Sandra; and grandson, David.
Blessed be the memory of Elinor Evelyn Grantz.
