Verlaine L. Shock, 76
A funeral service for Verlaine L. Schock of Granada will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 9, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, with burial following at Fairview Memorial Park in Fairmont. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 8, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and one hour prior to the service on Friday at Lakeview Funeral Home. Verlaine passed away Sunday evening, July 4, at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Verlaine Leone (Seim) Schock was born on June 17, 1934, in Jackson, the daughter of Clarence and Bessie (Christopher) Seim. She grew up in Jackson and graduated from Jackson High School in 1952. After her schooling, she worked at the Fairmont Telephone Company as an operator. On April 9, 1955, she married Duane Schock at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Jackson. They lived on a farm near Granada, where she raised a family and worked as a waitress. Over the years, Verlaine waitressed at Harold’s Supper Club in Northrop, the Granada Legion, and the Country Kitchen in Blue Earth. In her spare time, Verlaine enjoyed bird watching, fishing, cooking and baking, especially from her Norwegian heritage.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Duane Schock of Granada; son, Greg Schock and his wife, Lori of Granada; two grandchildren, Garrett and Megan Schock of Granada; two sisters, Ardis Erickson of Fairmont and Ivadelle Hinz and her husband, Willis of Arizona; brother, Richard Seim and his wife, Barb of Jackson; sister-in-law, Evelyn Holland of Truman; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Verlaine was preceded in death by daughter, Debra Schock; son, Douglas Schock; and brother-in-law, Einar Erickson.
