Frances M. Prokes, 93
A Mass of Christian Burial for Frances M. Prokes of Jackson will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 23, at Church of the Good Shepherd in Jackson, with Father Larry Brixius as celebrant. Burial will be in Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery. Frances died on Sunday evening, July 18, at the Good Samaritan Center in Jackson. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Church of the Good Shepherd in Jackson, with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. There will also be visitation on Friday one hour prior to the services at the church. Frances Mae Hall was born April 8, 1917, to James and Cecile (Bolton) Hall in Artesian, S.D. In 1933, Frances moved with her family to a farm south of Jackson and later to an acreage by Lakefield. On Nov. 22, 1939, she was united in marriage to Ivan A. Prokes at Flandreau, S.D. They farmed the family farm known as Hillmount Farm, which they purchased in 1966. Frances worked at various jobs, with 17 years at Bornholt Cleaners, then at the Jackson hospital and then Chozen Clothing Store in Jackson until her retirement. She was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd. Frances will be remembered for using her gifted talent as a seamstress, making many beautiful wedding, bridesmaid and prom dresses. She also did a lot of altering for many people in the Jackson area. Frances enjoyed doing all kinds of crafts, and her love for camping at area lakes and going to the Butterfield Threshing Bee was her joy in life, along with spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by three daughters, Judy (Norman) Dunker of rural Jackson, Jane (Mike) Martinson of Emmons, and Cindra (Loren) Markeson of Waseca; son, Terry Prokes of Woodbridge, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brother, Horace Hall of Okabena; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ivan A. Prokes on April 5, 2004; two brothers, Jay and LaVern Hall; three sisters, Faye Black, Agnes Meador and Opal Wahl; two nephews, John Wahl Jr. and Arnold Hall; and other relatives.
