Another big wind project in early planning
By Ryan Brinks (March 10, 2010)
Though still very early in the planning stages, Jackson County is again the target of a major wind farm project.
A local project developer for Spanish firm Gamesa briefed Jackson County Commissioners Tuesday on plans to build 100 turbines to generate 200 megawatts of wind-powered electricity in the county, beginning in two to three years.
That representative, Ryan Ammermann, received approval from the board to put up four meteorological towers to collect wind data like speed and sheer in order to determine how productive the wind resource is in specific locations and then the feasibility of a commercial wind farm.
For more on the locations of those meteorological towers west and southwest of Jackson, plus news of a system to pay taxes online, see this week's paper.
