Brian McGuire, 73Free Access


A Memorial Service for Brian McGuire, age 73 of Windom, took place at 1:30 PM on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom with Pastor Rick Bremseth officiating. Full military honors followed the service at the church on Saturday.

Visitation was on Friday, August 3, 2018, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the LaCanne Family Funeral Service in Windom and also for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Brian McGuire passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at the Windom Area Hospital.

Brian Lester McGuire was born on April 8, 1945, in Fulda, Minnesota to the late Herbert Lester and Lucille (Burson) McGuire. He was confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lakefield. Brian received his early education in country school south of Lakefield and later graduated from Lakefield High School. He then furthered his education as a Farrier at Sturgis, South Dakota. Brian was drafted in 1965 into the US Army and was stationed in Giessen, Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1968 and returned to Lakefield.

On March 17, 1966, Brian was united in marriage to Laura Ann Koch in El Paso, Texas. Through the years, Brian lived and worked as a Farrier and horse trainer in Sturgis and Denton, Nebraska until moving to Windom in 1970. Brian was also a substitute rural mail carrier in Lakefield and later began working at AGCO in Jackson, Minnesota as a machinist for twenty-seven years until retiring on April 8, 2010 at the age of 65. After retiring, Brian continued to live in rural Windom. He was hospitalized on Sunday at the Windom Area Hospital and passed away there on Tuesday morning, July 31st, with his family at his side, at the age of 73 years.

Brian was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom. He was a Minnesota Vikings fan since the very beginning and also loved the Minnesota Twins. Brian enjoyed chuck wagon racing, coaching softball, reading many books and watching westerns.

Brian is survived by his wife of 52 years, Laura Ann McGuire of Windom; three sons, Darin (Dulci) McGuire of Windom; Colin (Jodi) McGuire of New Castle, WY; Travis (Angie) McGuire of Las Vegas, NV; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Brian is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dan and Tom McGuire; and one sister, Rosemary McGuire.
