Huskies walk-off state-ranked KnightsFree Access

The Jackson County Central softball team was a 4-3 walk-off winner over Class AA No. 3 Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial Monday afternoon in Jackson.

The Huskies led 3-0 after homers by Mady Wachal and Miley VanDeVere and a run by Lauren Johnson, but the Knights tied the game with three runs in the top of the sixth. Johnson helped get the Huskies out of that inning with a diving catch for the third out.

Kinley VanDeVere nearly put the Huskies ahead in the bottom of the sixth, but her ball in the gap was caught with a diving catch to end the inning and strand Hadley Wachal on second.

Hadley Wachal worked around a two-out single in the top of the seventh, then the Huskies won it in the bottom half.

Miley VanDeVere was hit by a pitch to start the inning, then Johnson followed with a bunt single. Both moved up a base on a wild pitch, with VanDeVere scoring the game-winning run on a fielder’s choice hit by Brielle Tufvesson.

Hadley Wachal went the distance in the circle, striking out 10 and allowing just one earned run on two hits.

Johnson had two hits for the Huskies and Miley VanDeVere scored twice.

The win is the fifth straight for the Huskies and 10th in their last 11 games. JCC is now 14-5 on the season and ends the regular season Thursday at Wabasso.
