Aug. 27

Deputies responded to a one-vehicle rollover on County Road 17 north of County Road 24. Zoe Pohlman of Windom was travelling southbound on County Road 17 in a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche. Pohlman lost control and entered the west ditch and rolled. The vehicle also stuck an electric pole. The vehicle was totaled. Pohlman sustained minor injuries.    

Deputies responded to a one-vehicle accident on County Road 17 in the curves near 930th Street. Sean McGuire of Windom was travelling northbound on County Road 17 in a 1990 Chevrolet pickup. McGuire lost control as he entered the curve and entered the north ditch. The Windom Ambulance responded to the scene for minor injuries to McGuire. The Minnesota State Patrol assisted at the scene.  

Aug. 28

Deputies conducted training at the Heron Lake-Okabena High School.

A deputy responded to the area by Subway in regards to a report of a loose goat in Jackson.

A deputy investigated an iPad scam in Jackson.

A deputy investigated a report of harassment in Jackson.

Aug. 29

A deputy investigated a theft report in Jackson.

Deputies conducted training at the Jackson County Central Middle School in Lakefield.

Deputies conducted training at Riverside Elementary School in Jackson.

Deputies responded to a report of a goat that has been loose in Jackson for several days. They were unable to catch it.

Deputies conducted training at the JCC High School in Jackson.

A deputy investigated a theft report in Jackson.

The Spirit Lake, Iowa, Police Department initiated a pursuit that entered Jackson County near Loon Lake. The pursuit continued east to Petersburg and north toward Jackson. A Jackson County deputy deployed stop sticks and disabled the tires. The driver, a 35-year-old male from Fort Dodge, Iowa, was arrested for fleeing a peace officer. He also has an active warrant for a probation violation related to forgery from Story County, Nev. Additional charges in Jackson County are being reviewed.

A deputy conducted a traffic stop on Highway 71 north of Jackson. It was discovered the driver, a 28-year-old male from Minneapolis, had an order for protection in place, but hadn’t been served his copy. The deputy served a copy of the OFP on the driver on behalf of the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office.

Aug. 30

A deputy checked on a report of a suspicious vehicle in Hunter Township. The vehicle was located, but there was no one in it or in the area.

A rural resident reported a male trying to sell aerial photos of an acreage. He was driving a gray Buick Rendezvous with one black door. No crime was committed, but the salesman reportedly was rude to the homeowner and left abruptly in anger.   

Deputies responded to Burger King in Jackson due to a complaint made by a Jefferson Bus driver. The driver wanted a passenger removed due to his behavior. Deputies made contact with the passenger, a 35-year-old male from Anaheim, Calif. The male was transported to a detox center due to extreme intoxication. 

Aug. 31

A deputy arrested a 34-year-old female from Jackson at Des Moines Valley Health and Human Services on a Martin County warrant for fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance. A subsequent search of her purse resulted in the discovery of a pipe suspected to be used for smoking meth. The female was held in the Jackson County Jail for a new fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance crime. The Martin County warrant will be addressed at a later time.

A deputy conducted a traffic stop in Jackson. As a result, a citation for expired registration and no proof of insurance was issued.  

A deputy drove to the Mower County Jail and transported a 26-year-old male from Mt. Lake back to the Jackson County Jail due to a Jackson County warrant.

Sept. 1

A deputy conducted a welfare check on an individual in Jackson.

A deputy arrested a 36-year-old male from Jackson on a Cottonwood County warrant. The male provided a false name to the arresting deputy, so the male was held in the Jackson County Jail for giving a false name to a peace officer. The Cottonwood County warrant will be addressed at a later time.

A deputy assisted a motorist with vehicle issues on County Road 17 and County Road 14.   

Sept. 2

A deputy conducted a traffic stop in Jackson. After investigating, the driver was cited for possession of more than 1.4 grams of marijuana in a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A deputy assisted the Mt. Lake Ambulance with a medical call in Kimball Township.

Sept. 3

A deputy received a phone call from a Meredosia, Ill., resident who reported an apparent Internet scam. The resident purchased a dog for $400 online but did not receive the dog and now the seller is not answering the phone. The seller claimed the company name is Heritage Doxie and is based out of Alpha. There is no such company in Alpha. The caller was instructed to report the scam to the local police department. 

A deputy responded to a report of a loose horse near the fairgrounds in Jackson.

Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in Jackson. After investigating, a 32-year-old male from Virginia, Minn., was arrested for domestic assault.

Sept. 4

A deputy responded to a report of a dog at large in Jackson. The owner was contacted.  

A deputy responded to Blackbridge Road for a report of a tree that fell down blocking the road. The deputy was able to move most of the tree to allow traffic to get around it. The township was notified to clear the rest of it in the morning.

Sept. 5

Deputies responded to Circle Drive in Jackson for a report of the goat still roaming in that neighborhood.

Deputies arrested Nicholas Thompson, 28, of Jackson on a warrant for three separate counts — murder in the second degree-intentional murder, murder in the second degree-unintentional murder and murder in the second degree-unintentional murder.  

A deputy conducted several probation and drug court checks on individuals throughout the county.

Sept. 6

A deputy investigated a fraud report in Jackson.

A deputy conducted a welfare check on an individual in Jackson.

    I think instead of a new liquor store in Jackson we need to get some business down town in Jackson. The main street looks like a ghost town most of the time. Why are we moving the businesses on the way out of Jackson? And the one store we can get a few things at is such a mess that you can hardly get down to see what is on the shelves.
